After a musically inclined childhood behind the Berlin Wall, exchange and encounter remain inspiring elements in the works of brothers Sebastian and Daniel Selke. Since 2016 first under the pseudonym CEEYS and now as Brueder Selke they have been releasing critically and publicly acclaimed albums such as WÆNDE and HIDDENSEE and developing discerning concert formats.
This historically influenced idea of collaboration also led in 2020 to their assumption of the artistic direction of the Schaffrath Chamber Orchestra, founded by Hilmar Schmalenberg in 1989.
Together with the director Nils Jensen, they continue the annual – now legendary – performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Weihnachtsoratorium” (Christmas Oratorio) with the Neuruppiner A Cappella Choir. Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” was an essential part of a report by the ARD on the “Deutsches Chorfest 2022” (German Choir Festival 2022) in Leipzig.
During the pandemic, Brueder Selke further developed the ensemble’s profile to become the Hausorchester (house orchestra). The successful performance of Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Messiah” in collaboration with the Singakademie Potsdam became their first project under the new name. Moving forward, the Hausorchester will be available, alongside choral-symphonic projects, also for the development of new works.
